Call for Applicants for Editor-in-Chief of the CJPH
The Canadian Journal of Public Health (CJPH) is an independent, professional, peer-reviewed journal of international calibre that publishes original research and scholarly articles submitted in either English or French that are relevant to population and public health. With an impact factor of 4.3 it is in the second quartile of journals in the category of public, environmental and occupational health. The journal aims to advance public health research and practice in Canada and around the world, contributing to the improvement of the health of populations and the reduction of health inequalities. The CJPH is an official publication of the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) published by Springer.
CPHA is seeking an Editor-in-Chief for the Canadian Journal of Public Health.
The position of Editor-in-Chief is voluntary and no remuneration is provided. Reasonable expenses will be covered.
CJPH publishes six regular issues per year with approximately 15 manuscripts per issue. Annually, the journal receives approximately 500 original manuscripts to consider. Manuscripts fall under the following categories: qualitative research, quantitative research, mixed research, population health intervention research, innovations in policy and practice, systematic review, and commentary. Other published items include editorials, invited commentaries, letters to the Editor, special sections, and special supplementary issues of the journal.
The Editorial Board consists of public health experts from a variety of disciplines and institutions, as well as geographic representation, whose role involves soliciting, producing, and reviewing papers, handling manuscript peer-review, and developing editorial policies.
The Editor-in-Chief works closely with the Managing Editor. The majority of work is completed using web-based software; therefore, the Editor-in-Chief can work from any location in Canada. The Editor-in-Chief will chair a minimum of two meetings of the Editorial Board per year: an in-person meeting in the fall and a video conference meeting in the spring.

This position requires an energetic, details-oriented individual with the ability to adapt to work independently and as part of a professional team. The ability to multi-task and maintain consistently high-quality work is essential. Candidates applying for this position should be a recognized leader in the field of public health and should have:
- A strong academic background in one or more disciplines of public health
- A strong publication record
- A solid understanding and appreciation of diverse research methodologies
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- The ability to network with peers in a wide variety of settings and disciplines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with scientific editing
- The ability to communicate and work in both English and French an asset.
